On the second trip, the kids counted *131* alligators, and throughout the swamp you can hear their ubiquitous bellowing (alligator love song in the spring!) Bring your own canoe, or rent one from a consignor. On both trips we were kept awake till late at night on one platform by the song of frogs resonating beneath the wood. as created for the movie Song of the South and its related storybooks. It was released in August 1980 as the second single from. This is one of the wildlife hotspots of the US, in my experience - we saw woodstorks, egrets, sandhill cranes, ibises, and an anhinga drying its wings on a morning branch. but the adaptation of the Okefenokee Swamp for this purpose may have owed. The Legend of Wooley Swamp is a song written, composed, and recorded by the Charlie Daniels Band. Camping is primitive - bring a tent to set up on wooden platforms (there are outhouses on the platforms.) You used to be able to stay in the swamp up to five days, migrating from one platform to another, but I think the allowed duration may be shorter now. The first time was pre-kid, the second time w a 16- and 17-year old (we did *not* visit the Okefenokee when our daughter was little due to the v real danger fr alligators, wh chomp first and think later, if at all.) Permits to camp need to be applied for well in advance from the national wildlife refuge, and you will be assigned a (canoe) trail to follow and where to stay overnight. Both times we were travelling by canoe and camping over a period of several days on platforms in the swamp. The actual dates of our visit were April 2013 and March (I think) 1994.
